Two Films Debut At Fairmount!

Friday, March 13th, 2009

SEBRING, March 13, 2009 – With the Carmike banking on the graphic sex and violence of Watchmen, the Fairmount Cinema 6 added two new movies to its lineup.

Already that lineup is strong. The Fairmount hosts the Oscar-winning best film Slumdog Millionaire, theĀ  No. 1 box office hit for two weeks, Madea Goes to Jail, the hugely popular Taken and Gran Torino (some folks have seen the latter 2 and 3 times, it’s that good).

Add to the mix The Last House on the Left, a horror remake that is not for the squeamish, and the Chinese-style fight movie, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li.

In short, there’s something for just about every taste at the Fairmount.

And the Fairmount gets our nod for the best popcorn and the best concession prices.

Wherever you go, whatever you see, have a great time at the movies!!!

NEW MOVIES FRIDAY: Spotlight On Twilight

Friday, November 21st, 2008

twilight-01COLD-BLOODED LOVE: He might be blue and cold, but vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson) has the hots for Isabella (Kristen Stewart). The only problem is some of his kind see her as hot, too, as in meal, in Twilight.

SEBRING, November 21, 2008 – The major new release today is Twilight, which debuted with a midnight showing.

Coming up next Tuesday/Wednesday, however, will be Four Christmases with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon, and Transporter 3, the series that made Jason Statham such an in-demand and good B film actor. It’s high tech B, though, so expect lots of action and effects. He’s a terrific martial artist.

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS: Quantum of Solace, Twilight (mostly for teens and young adults), Saw 5 (for horror fans only), the comedy Role Models, and the star-studded Appaloosa.

Heartland Gets New Movies for Weekend of October 17!

Friday, October 17th, 2008

SEBRING, October 17, 2008 - The weather is cooling off, but the movies are getting warmer as we head into the Thanksgiving/Christmas season.

One of the biggest opens October 24: High School Musical 3. It will play exclusively in Highlands County at the Fairmount Cinema 6.

And Fireproof, the Christian romance that has exceeded all expectations, remains firmly entrenched at the Regal Eagle Ridge 12 in Lake Wales with four full showings.

But we have a few goodies opening today, starting with Sex Drive, a comedy at the Fairmount Cinema 6. A testotsterone laden 18-year-old plans to meet up with a “beauty” he contacted online. Some genuine funny moments crop up in this film rated a B+ by Yahoo! users; but beware strong, crude sexual content that gives Sex Drive its R rating.

The Mark Wahlberg supernatural thriller Max Payne opens at the Regal Eagle Ridge, as does the political satire W and the moderate Indiana Jones style adventure, City of Ember.

It’s almost funny how folks – particularly Hollywood’s glitter children – keep raggin’ on the prez. After all, Congress’s approval rating is about one-third of W’s. Maybe Hollywood should make a movie about Congress? We could call it Kingdom of Clowns. Imagine House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with a big, red ball on her nose. Come to think of it, it would be an improvement.

W and Max Payne also open at the Carmike.

If money is a concern, keep in mind that the Fairmount Cinema 6 has the lowest ticket and concession prices in the county. If you’re taking the kids to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua, for instance, you can get the Kiddie Kombo for just $3.50. It includes a Jr. drink, popcorn, and a treat. That deal makes taking the kids more affordable.

God bless, and we’ll see you at the movies!

Shyamalan Back With Creepy Thriller 'Happening'

Friday, June 13th, 2008

SEBRING, June 13, 2008 – He’s back!

M. Night Shyamalan, the genius behind The Sixth Sense and Signs, has spawned what appears to be a creepy thriller with supernatural implications. The Happening debuts today at the Carmike Cinema 8 at the Lakeshore Mall, one of two big openings.

Much of the public disliked Shyamalan’s turns with The Village and Lady of the Lake (I thought The Village was excellent), so this is his effort at regaining the filmgoer’s trust in him as a deep thinker of mysteries and creepiness. I have high hopes that he will succeed with The Happening. Shyamalan is so creative and nonstandard. I love it!

The other opener is Marvel Comics Group’s second stab at The Incredible Hulk. With a better cast, hopefully a better story and direction, and crossovers (Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr. as billionaire Tony Stark), this time The Incredible Hulk may truly be incredible. It plays at the Fairmount Cinema 6.

Below are the trailers for the respective movies, then this article will continue. First, the trailer for The Happening:

Next up is the trailer for The Incredible Hulk:

Not only is this weekend a strong one for openers, but the powerhouse films should keep coming with Get Smart and Kit Kitteridge: an American Girl, Wall-E and Wanted, waiting in the wings to debut the next couple of weekends. SEBRING CINEMA AND SPORTS has you covered, and our local theaters will keep bringing the film fun.

Here’s the lineup for the Carmike:

The Happening – 2 theaters

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – 2 theaters

The Chronicles of Narnia Prince Caspian – 1 theater, day and night shows

The Strangers – 1 theater

The 13th Alley (a new scary movie about abnormal happenin’s at a bowling alley) – 1 theater

Sex and the City – 1 print being shown in Mugs ‘N’ Movies, so sit down, have a pitcher with the girls, and immerse yourself in the fantasy courtesy of the Carmike!

Here is the lineup for the Fairmount:

The Incredible Hulk – 1 1/2 theaters

You Don’t Mess with the Zohan – 1 1/2 theaters

Kung Fu Panda – 2 theaters

Then She Found Me (with Helen Hunt and Bette Midler) – 1 theater

Hulk and Zohan will actually split a theater, with Hulk getting 3 and 6:15 shows and Zohan getting a 9 o’ clock show.

NEW MOVIES: 3 Open in Sebring!

Friday, May 9th, 2008

SEBRING, May 9, 2008 – Three films hit the big screens in Sebring today. They are Speed Racer and What Happens in Vegas at the Fairmount Cinema 6, and Redbelt at the Carmike Cinemas Lakeshore Mall.

For movie showtimes, click on the link of your choice on the right sidebar under “Movie Showtimes.”

Speed Racer is, on paper, the biggest of the three openers. Starring Emile Hirsch as Speed and John Goodman as his father, Speed Racer tells of young, hot-blooded Speed, who takes on a huge battle when he won’t sell out to corporate greed and race-fixing. It all comes to head in The Crucible, the most death-defying cross country rallies in the world!

What Happens in Vegas features the biggest stars, however, with Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher playing drunk gamblers who wed then have to split a multi-million dollar jackpot – unless he or she can knock off the other spouse.

Redbelt, the least promoted of the three films, touches on a subject that has grown in popularity in recent years: mixed martial arts. It may surprise and draw its share of those fans. It stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as a mixed martial arts trainer who must enter the bloodsport as a last resort after he is conned. Renowned director David Mamet directs.
